Hello

has anyone sought after a second opinion (privately) for their mole biopsy, if so, can you advise who you used.  I am struggling to try and find somewhere to get this done.

Thanks

Mandy

  • Hi Mandy

Can I ask why you want a second opinion on your mole biopsy? Unless I've misunderstood I'm assuming that you want it done on the mole you had removed in January or have you had another mole removed since then?

By the way, have you had your WLE yet? Looking back at your previous posts I think you are due to have it about now.

    Hi Latchbrook,

WLE was done on Tuesday, not doing too bad.

i have a couple of questions with my pathology and I am not getting the answers, just want to do this so I can then move on.

    hope you are well?

    thanks

    mandy

  • Hey Mandy

Glad to hear that you're doing okay after your WLE. I guess it might be a little more painful on your leg than where I had mine on my left arm as it was easy for me not to use my arm too much.

I'm well, thanks for asking. I had a check-up three weeks ago and everything is still okay. I always come out with a big smile on my face once they've finished checking me over. I think it's relief!

I've looked at your profile and thanks very much for completing it. I see your pathology was "Stage 1a, o.57mm, not ulcerated and 1 mitotic" and wondered if perhaps someone here could answer your questions. I wasn't given any further information about the biopsy than the type of info you have, ie mine was Stage 2a, 1.45mm and ulcerated.

I haven't heard of anyone asking for a second opinion on a biopsy. I know you say you want to have it done privately but I think that both private and NHS hospitals use the same pathology labs, although I might be wrong about that, so you'd have to find out which path lab was used so that you could choose another one.

I would have thought that your SCNS would be best placed to help with a second opinion. If you're not getting answers to your questions you could contact the PALS department at your hospital as they can help with health-related questions and help resolve concerns and problems you have with your care.

Let me know how you get on with this as it would be useful to know if a second opinion can be obtained on a biopsy.

Glad to have the WLE to now recovery mentally and physically, it’s not too bad to be honest, resting lots and hope to be back to my normally dog walking soon.

so glad to hear that your check up was good, it is such a relief.. long may it continue for you.

So with my path report, which is on my profile, I had regression of 0.6m, I am in the belief that you have to add the two together to get the true depth.  If this is the case then am I staged wrong??

I am awaiting a response from SCN, if I don’t get a response by the end of the week I will contact PALS.

i have also contacted Harley Street Conciege who I believe do second opinions, awaiting a response.

I certainly will let you know if I get a second opinion

    Regards

    Mandy

  • I have to admit Mandy, that I've not heard about regression depths with melanoma so I'd only be guessing if you need to add the two figures together. Why don't you post this question in ask a nurse and you should get a response within 2 working days.

I can now understand why you might be worried that you've been staged wrongly and it's disappointing that your team haven't been able to answer your question as I would have thought that this was a simple question for them to answer.

    Best wishes

Thank you, I will ask the nurse.  Hopefully I will get some insight from one of them.

    take care mandy x

  • Hi Mandy

I was looking back through the recent posts and wondered if you'd had your questions answered about the true depth of your melanoma from your SCNS or if you'd sought a second opinion.

I hope your WLE has fully headed now.

    Take care

    Hi Latchbrook,

Hope all is well with you.

my nurse asked the pathologist with regards to the regression and depth.  She confirmed that I was still stage 1a.  I have my first appt with her in June and want to ask about how to get s second opinion privately on my biopsy..

WLE is healing well, get my results 3 June, I am away in Florida hence waiting longer for results.

  • Hi Mandy

Have you had the results from your WLE yet and how are you getting on with having a second opinion on your biopsy?

    Hi Latchbrook,

Thank you for your email.  WLE was clear.. yipee!!  I asked about a second opinion and the nurse is going to find out for me, as she has not been asked about a second opinion.   She also mentioned that she could book an appt to meet the pathologist to ask any questions, which I may do.

Have you had your results yet?

    Mandy xx
