Hi there,
I had a mole excision biopsy on Friday, and when I seen the dermatologist on the Wednesday prior to this, he said there could be a possibility of early stages of melanoma, and said he'd request urgent testing of results.
I know you shouldn't Google things but I have. I'm trying not to stress out over this but it is very difficult......
Anyone else been through or currently going through this?
I'm praying it is just an abnormal mole.
All the best to everyone,
J
Hi and welcome to the online community
Just about every single one of us here has been through what you're going through now, so we all understand the anxiety you'll be feeling.
Staying off Google is probably my best bit of advice as the information you'll find is generally out of date plus people only post the scariest stories not when they discovered that their mole was benign. If you want to do any research then stay on sites like this one or Cancer Research UK.
While you're waiting for your results, which can take up to 4 weeks to come back, try to find some things to help distract yourself. Indulge a favourite past time, watch box sets, clean the house from top to bottom (mine needs doing if your's is already done), etc. I think you get the general idea!
If it does turn out to be melanoma then for most people the only treatment they'll need is a wide local excision (WLE) and maybe a sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB). I've had both of these so if you want to ask any questions, fire away.
Hopefully, your mole will not be melanoma but, if it is, we'll be here to share our experiences and offer support.
x
Hi Latchbrook,
Sorry it's taken me a long time to respond to you, I am very grateful for your advice!
It has been difficult waiting, and at the time you said I may have to wait 4 weeks I couldn't imagine that. It's now been 6 weeks past Friday! I have phoned the dermatologist secretary 3 times now. At 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 6 weeks on Friday. She has called labs for me and said she has been checking for me and hopefully I should hear something by this Friday coming.
Apparently there has been a hold up at Labs due to staff shortages and even urgent results are being held up..In the meantime I've been really run down and seem to have a low immune system and I've been trying to stop myself from thinking the worst...
Reading a lot of the discussions here I see there are a lot of strong people going through some really tough times with their health.
I'm glad this community offers a good support system for people to turn to.
Hi all,
Just wanted to let you know, that ater all that waiting and stress I have been told that I had a rare mole called a Spitz naevus. Which can mimic melenoma and fact was treated like 1 one before New research in 1948. But is benign and not cancerous.
It has been stressful going through this and I have the utter most deepest regards for everyone (and their family and friends) who is waiting on results or who have been recently given a diagnosis.
Stay strong warriors and keep being there for one another!
