Whilst undergoing my nuclear medicine treatment yesterday, the radioactive tracer went to one Lymph node nearest to my melanoma position. But then the nurse located a deeper Lymph node further up that highlighted radioactive traces.
My question is, does these mean the cancer has spread to other Lymph nodes? Or that it is just because it is in the same region?
I have a feeling I know what the answer is!
Hi
When you are injected with radioactive dye it is to find out which of your lymph nodes is the sentinel lymph node, ie the first one that anything flows to. Sometimes people have more than one sentinel lymph node. It doesn't mean that cancer has spread to these lymph nodes just that they would be the ones that it would travel to first if it has.
This link gives more information on having a lymphoscintigraphy.
