Hi New to group. Long story in March this year radiologist spotted a nodule on my lower left lung and referred me to Thoracic consultant, 6 weeks later I hadn't heard anything so I chased it. Initially I was sent away saying it was nothing to worry about he looked bsck on a scan I had 11 years sooner this showed the nodule and it had only grown 5mm. During all this I lost my mum to lung cancer so I prompted me to get a second opinion again I was told it's nothing to worry about, but I said I wasn't happy with that, so after seeing a third consultant he finally agreed to send me to a thoracic consultant. He agreed to do lower left lobectomy and pathology came back few weeks ago it was confirmed as adenocarcinoma stage T1bnomo, which apparently I'm very lucky as it was very early stages and I don't need chemo or any further treatments, I will be actively monitored for next few years. I feel relived but Also very  frustrated that I had to really push to be taken seriously in the first place.

  • Hello ,

A very warm welcome to the lung forum. I'm very sorry to hear of the loss of your Mum.

You did exactly the right thing being insistent on further investigations leading to surgery at such an early stage. I was diagnosed ar T2A N1 M0 and had surgery (full right lung removal) .Due to N1 (cancer found in a lymph node close to the tumour) I also had chmotherapy as a precaution.

This was just over 12 years ago now, and I've had no further lung problems since. I'm sure you will have similar success given your early stage on diagnosis.

Thank you for telling us about your insistence and treatment, it is very useful and encouraging for members here on a similar pathway.

    With best wishes, Derek.
