Hi everyone just seeing if anyone has had a similar experience.
My dad is 83 has moderate COPD was unwell over Xmas and was given antibiotics but he couldn’t shake it off was sent for an X-ray and referred to the respiratory clinic who called him in for a scan he was then asked to go back to the clinic a few days later where he was told he has a few lung nodules( he’s had them for a few years but were very small the largest now being 2.5 cm ) the doctor in the clinic told him that he was certain my dad had lung cancer by looking at scan results. Since then dad has had a brain scan, EBUS biopsies after 3 weeks of waiting for results he was due to go to the clinic this Thursday but last week the doctor called to say that there were no Malignancy from the nodules or lymph nodes or the fluid when they washed his lungs out.Brain scan also clear.
we are a little confused now as to what is going on as they want him to have a CT lung biopsy as they can’t rule out cancer but all biopsies so far have no malignancy? Anyone one else had anything similar?
Hi Kennedy welcome to the group, but sorry to hear about your dad. A CT scan is usually one of the first tests you receive with suspected lung cancer, it sounds like to me as if they are dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s. The only one that can give you the real reason is the oncology team. Best to get all tests done I think, so they can be absolutely sure.
Thank you …yes you are right all the tests need to be done to get a clear picture of whats going on it’s just a little confusing as we were expecting to get staging and hopefully a treatment plan in place. Now we are none the wiser as to what is going on or even if he has cancer at all. The lung clinic doctor has said they can’t find any cancer but can’t rule it out either just yet. Trying to keep positive and hopefully the wait will be over soon.
Bless you it’s a very stressful time, and nothing seems to happen quickly either.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
