Hi I have just joined this group my Husband has just been diagnosed with suspected cancer in his right lung and now has to have a ct scan biospy on two small nodules on his left lung cannot biospy right as has a lot of consolidation in the lung we are sort of in limbo at the moment this has been going on for 6 months apart from a cough he is fit and healthy and has never smoked
Hi SuperLeeds3 welcome to the group but I am sorry to hear this about your husband. I know how terrifying this is for you both.
The biopsy of the left lung will be so important as this will determine if it is cancer, and more importantly what type of cancer it may be. There are so many treatments available for lung cancer now, and it is important to get the right treatment in place for each specific cancer.
I haven’t had a ct guided biopsy myself, but from what others have said it is a relatively easy procedure. Hopefully someone here in the group who has had it done will be along to share their experience with you soon.
Hi SuperLeeds3 (and Chellisimo), I'm so sorry to hear that you're waiting for more news about what your husband is facing, and I know how frightening it is in these early days. Just to say that I had a CT guided biopsy on my top right lobe (after a failed bronchoscopy, which was terrifying....) and I have to reassure you that the biopsy was a very easy procedure. They put you in and out of the scan several times, and the doctor used a sort of a grid laid on my chest to mark the area that he needed to investigate. I had a local anaesthetic (which was fine....) and then he used a longer implement to take the biopsy. He said I would feel pressure and it might be uncomfortable, and that's exactly what happened except that the discomfort was minimal - apparently you have no pain receptors inside your lungs... And then we were done. I needed to rest in the ward and be observed for several hours afterwards, because they said there was a pneumothorax but that resolved too and I was able to go home. The biopsy found that my cancer was NSCLC, adenocarcinoma, and from then on the multidisciplinary team decided on my plan of care. That was nearly 8 years ago, so I'm a success! Sending best best wishes to your husband.
Thank you for the kind words I am not to worried about the biopsy it is the waiting that is worrying me as I am scared that the cancer will spread further I will feel better when he starts treatment as this has been ongoing since September he is in good health at the moment apart from from a cough
Hi SuperLeeds, I'm guessing you live in the Leeds area. If so maybe your Hospital is Jimmies but could be Leeds General.
I'm just out of Jimmies last November having "C" in my right lung, I had 800mm bowel removed in 23. I'm feeling fine going about my life more or less normal. . The consultant phoned me Tuesday and said I'm clear. There's no reason why your husband shouldn't be the same.
The success rate is very good these days. The problem is you don't often hear of them you only hear of the ones who lose it. I tell anyone who'll listen hopefully to alleviate the fear that folk have. I don't feel I've been fearful but I'm bloody annoyed but I trust in the NHS team that are look after me.
Hi yes you are right actually got a phone call this afternoon to go to the Bexley Wing at St James for the Ct scan biopsy on Monday so at least things are moving thanks for replying
Because I had bowel resection in 03 and lung last October. They are putting me on 3 monthly scans. At least they are looking after me.
Thank you for your encouraging words It is great that you are 8 years down the line his right lung is too badly damaged to operate our consultant says it is stage 3 we have now got the ct scan biopsy on Monday both of us still feeling a bit shaken
