I was diagnosed two years ago after an operation to remove my thymus gland that a PET scan showed as cancer, they resected part of my left lung at the same time.  Recovery was rough. 9 weeks later I got the results from the surgeon and they were favourable, I was told that they had removed everything that looked cancerous and a good margin.  I was told by them that I was a perfect candidate for immunotherapy and was referred to an oncologist.  He told me that I wasn’t well enough for that treatment and that he was the one that dealt with medication and that the surgeon had no right to tell me that. After a CT scan shortly after the oncology appointment it showed that the cancer was in my left lung.  I was given a course of radiotherapy followed by another CT a few months after , good news, it hadn’t grown.  I them began chemotherapy that I was read to give up on after the first dose, the oncologist said that they would reduce the dose and was I willing to try it, so I did.  That was better but it was making we feel ill and ended up in a wheelchair.

The chemo was stopped on a few occasions as  I became ill and my kidneys were compromised.  I’m now on immunotherapy and about to have my sixth dose, zero side effects and my GP put me on steroids so I’m walking with a stick and I’m able to do things around the house, so I’m grateful for that.  I’ll keep on doing what I’m doing and keeping positive.  Sorry that this is so long. x

  • Hi  welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here. It sounds like you have been in a rocky road, but glad things have become more manageable for you.
It is great you have a positive attitude, that does help to get us through the toughest times.
Good luck with your treatment, many people her in the group have had really good results with immunotherapy.
