Hi. I have small cell lung and lymph node cancer. I had my first chemo/immunotherapy three weeks ago. Although I did have side effects, nausea and indigestion included, now my hair is coming out in handfuls. Is it better to have it cut short? Does that help? Thank you for reading.
Hello
I would say have it cut really short . I must say losing my hair was what bothered me most about chemo. My son gave me a buzz cut and it’s much better than long strands coming out in lumps. I used to cry in the shower when it came out in clumps. You feel as though you’re taking control if you cut it short.
Thank you. You’ve helped me decide to go ahead with the cut.
I think that’s a good plan and remember it does grow back - mine came back curly and I’ve had straight hair all my life!
Oh that sounds good. Mine is really straight. I’d love a curly mop .
My eyebrows and lashes went a bit sparse but didn’t disappear altogether so you might be lucky too. Get a good eyebrow pencil
Hi Verbena in Spinney
Please do not do the shave. Get you hairdresser or a friend to cut it to between 1 to 2 inches long so that you can gently run your fingers through it to remove any hair that is coming out. Also by having it cut short you are already saying goodbye to your hair, so the total loss is kinder.
I was told in advance that my hair loss would be 10%% top to toe; it turned out to be 99% as my eyelashes (bless them) never all fell out at the same time; so I always had some there even if only little black stumps. As for the eyebrows, when needed I used an eyebrow pencil.
Hope this helps a bit.

Thank you Kegsy. It does help. I did get it cut and it’s still falling out. I’m prepared for total loss as I progress with the treatment.
Thank you. I have hypothyroidism so lost my eyebrows a long time ago. Maybe I’ll keep a few eyelashes .
