Hello everyone.
I'm Fatmama. I've recently been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and I'm about to start my first round of chemotherapy & radiotherapy. I am terrified!
I feel so alone and am desperate to know if there are others out there like myself that have the same or have gone through the same/similar experiences and treatments?
The doctors have told me what I should expect but I need to hear it from people that have the experience of going through it.
Can anyone please help and advise as to what I should expect from this?
Many thanks for reading and assisting.

Hi Fatmama
So very sorry that you have cause to be on here.
I was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC) way back in 2011. My treatment involve 4 cycles of chemo (3 days every 3 weeks) alongside 33 days of radiotherapy (Mon -Fri),. This was followed by 10 daily sessions of preventive/ radiotherapy to the brain. I will not lie to you , the chemo/radiation was tough but its was very doable. The radiotherapy to the brain was very easy to do (I nipped in on my way to work!). I have not had any further treatment since.
Everyone reacts differently to the treatment so it is almost impossible to tell you what you will experience, However you will most likely u experience tiredness, especially from the radiotherapy.
Use the weekend breaks from treatment to rest up as much as you can, especially as your treatment progresses. The benefits of the treatment are cumulative, but unfortunately so are the side effects.
.The positives are 1) Chemo is known to be effective on SCLC in terms of shrinking the tumour 2) the radiotherapy will continue to work on the cancer for several months after the last session..
I wish you the best possible outcomes.

Hi Keksy
Thank you for your helpful reply which gives me hope.
I'm pleased to hear that you've not had to have any further treatment and hopefully it stays that way. I start chemo on Wednesday 28th Feb and radiotherapy on the 3rd cycle.
I thank you very much for your encouragement.

Hi . I only had chemo . Had it day 1 and day 8 of a 21 day cycle . It did make me feel yuck You have to get your head down plough through it , on good days make plans get friends to visit or go out . On the rougher ones boxfest on Netflix but remember there is an end to it and you will benefit . Your taste buds may go and food will be a bit strange . Can’t believe how many bottles of bbq sauce I went through . I poured it on everything. Good luck with your treatment .
