Hi my name is Kate and my partner has lung cancer that we found out on 15 December this year so still raw and I’m struggling to deal with as everyone asks me how he is but they don’t ask how I am. He has had loads of side affects after one dose of chemo and they have now put his chemo on hold. I’m struggling to hold it together for him and I’m tired. What can I do

Hi Boot Scoot. My wife had pet ct scan on 18th December and we had a letter on 24th to say she needed to see a consultant so we new it was going to be Lung Cancer it took2 separate attempts at a biopsy and she saw an Oncologist yesterday. She starts chemo/imuno therapy in the next week or 2 so I know something of what you are going through. I think initially people only see the person with cancer and don't think about their partners I am sure they will come to realise the effect it has on you in time. I had bowel cancer diagnosed in July 22 and had radio/Chemo therapy and surgery with a permanent Stoma so I really can see things from both sides now. Honestly I wish it was me that had the Cancer now rather than see her suffer as I know what's coming for her. I am sure you will find the strength to cope its surprising how we humans rise to the occasion when we must and I'm sure your partner will really appreciate your help when they finally find the right treatment for him. please don't be afraid to tell other members of your family or really close friends hiw you are feeling its only their own fears for him that stop them realising that you are affected also good luck and please let us know how it goes. Dave
