Side Effects from Radical Radiation

Hi everyone,

My husband was diagnosed with stage 3a lung cancer at the beginning of December and he has been on a radical treatment programme of chemo and 30 day so of radiation on a daily basis.  His side effects have been horrific to say the least but the one that bothers him the most is a brain freeze sensation at the back of his neck and head when he drinks something (even warm) or eats and this of course has put him off drinking and eating.  The consultants have not come across this before so I was wondering has anyone else who has had radiation treatment suffered from this sensation?  Thank you.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to hear about the side effects your husband is suffering from, they sound very unpleasant.

I don't have any similar experiences to share but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list.

I hope your husband's team can find something to help him soon.

  • Hi Latchbrook,

So kind of you to reply.  I don't think my husband's team have ever experienced anyone with this symptom before either.  I imagine it is the nerve endings that many are suffering with in their legs and other parts of their body from chemo.

We were wondering whether it might be a vitamin B12 and foliate deficiency so are going to have a blood test next week to look into that.

Again thank you for your warm welcome and reply.
