Lung cancer spread to liver

Hi - new to the forum.  I'm a 57 year old female. I was diagnosed with right lung cancer in late December. Since then I've had EBUS, lung function test and Petscan. Five biopsies were taken from EBUS procedure all inconclusive? Petscan shows cancer may be in liver too. I am awaiting MRI Scan on liver now. They also wanted me to undergo a second EBUS which I've refused. So now I'm waiting for needle biopsy if Petscan shows this is possible. If not I have to wait for up to 2 months for hospital referral to get biopsy done? Consultant looked none too please I opted for the latter which makes me nervous. The consultant agreed that the cancer has been on my lungs for maybe 6 months or more. The lung tumour is 3.5cm and primary diagnosis is T4 N2 M0? I left the appointment with unanswered questions - wasn't even given my lung function results. I keep googling - I know, stop, so I've joined this site. I was diagnosed with COPD over a year ago - I think they got this wrong and the cancer started then perhaps. The anxiety, the waiting to know is awful. I was hoping for answers from the EBUS?  The consultant said parts of the cancer/tumour can die and this is why results were inconclusive? Anyone in a similar position and having to wait up to 2 months for a biopsy and answers?

  • Welcome to the group   but sorry you find yourself here.
I can understand how frustrated you must feel after the unsuccessful Ebus procedure. But you are right you must stop googling. The internet is very outdated, and so much has changed for lung cancer treatments in recent years.
I am not sure why you would have to wait 2 months for a biopsy. That seems to be a long wait to me. I don’t think they do give you your lung function test results, so don’t worry about that,  I’ve never seen mine.

I think wait for the MRI for the liver, and see what the next step is. In this early stage of tests, decisions change all the time, so you might well get the biopsy earlier than you think.

  • Hi Chelle thanks for your response. Hoping to get an MRI on liver next week at least, but yes I think 2 months is a long time to wait for biopsy hoping I'll get it sooner. Thanks again

  • Think I waited 4 weeks , but had to delay it by another 3 weeks as I was going on holiday.
