I'm a 67yr old grandfather who has been diagnosed with lung cancer. I was diagnosed 5 weeks ago.
I had my preop for surgery this Wednesday past 5th of July . It's for a Lobectomy on my right lung, lower lobe. I chose this option as it offered me the best options and my surgeon agreed that it was my best option. My date is to be confirmed but it will be in July.
I have had a good experience since my tumour was axidently discovered while having a pancreatic routine check up. In fact I had the pet ct scan prior tae meeting my respiratory consultant, he was surprised at this as I also had no symptoms .I stopped smoking and started the Enhanced Recovery Program within 24 hour's of diagnosis.
I felt that I needed to be part of a group where I could discuss the questions from others who were going through or have been through what I'm going through, not that my thoracic have been absolutely fantastic.
Hi. Welcome to the group although sorry you find yourself here. I have lung cancer & waiting a date to have the same on my upper left lung. I gave up smoking last October after hubby had a heart attack, he has heart failure but is stable. I took up the offer of a free lung scan on the 1st of April & it all just went from there
Hi Doneaskin
If you click on my name you can read my bio
I had same op March 7th right lower lobectomy and top segment to remove two primary cancers. I’m in Spain on holiday so my recovery is going well.
The cancer was picked up on my yearly CT for Bowel cancer. Guess I’m lucky because if it hadn’t been for the bowel cancer they wouldn’t have spotted the lung
Gave up smoking twenty years ago but did vape stopped that too now.
Ann
Good to meet you, sorry that your also going through this as well
We are probably sharing the same reason for having treatment "Grandchildren " I really would like to see them grow up. No a lot to ask.
My Mum had the same cancer, and unfortunately by the time it was discovered it was to far advanced for any treatment, I vowed that I would I would never go through any treatment never say never lol 16 years later and I'm waiting for treatment
As I write, I'm craving a cigarette like it would fix everything, I'm sure you know the feeling. Due to a latex allergy I had to stop the patches, the spray gives flatulence, the lozenges feel slimy.
I do feel very grateful for the wonderful NHS and the team of wonderful folks who are working with me on this journey ️.
Let's beat this together, I can if you can
Yep definitely want to see my 3 beautiful grandchildren grow up. I am vaping but am expecting to be told to give that up at sometime although I have told the drs At every appointment. The NHS are brliant, they saved my hubby’s life so now praying they save mine! Yes we will do this together. We can beat this & share the stories of our grandchildren growing up so we have something to look forwa to
Ann nice to meet you, wow you have had one roller coaster of a time. You have a great attitude to it all. Nice that you've been able get away and enjoy the good things in life.
I'm also very lucky as I had suspected pancreatic cancer and had requested to see my pancreatic consultant in October last year, he spotted the tumour from my abdominal CT scan and requested the chest scan. It is not the first time he's spotted something else, he also did a gastric bypass while dealing with my pancreas, that was after he did my splenectomy.
I'm going for a wee sleep BRB
