Hello-my husband has just been diagnosed with non small cell stage 4 lung cancer in both lungs and nodes and in the 5th rib. It was a complete shock as he had no symptoms at all apart from a tickly cough following catching Covid 5 weeks before. We have seen the oncologist and decided to have chemo with immunotherapy but we’ve still got no idea when treatment will start. It’s so difficult as there is so much waiting for appts etc. He is 69 and he is so healthy (or so we thought). Is anyone else in a similar situ??
Thanks Frantic10 for that. Every bit of info helps with the “unknown”. We’ve got everything crossed and are hopeful and luckily he’s upbeat about it and continue to crack jokes as he always has. I hope you are ok and sail through without too many side effects and yes I will be grateful for your feedback. Take it easy and I’ll be thinking about you.
Hi Tessa I think anything is worth a try, because it is so different for people. I wasnt keen on the wedge cushion only because when you lay on the bed it tends to raise from the mattress at the bottom. I dont know if you realise you can get one of these for free via your McMillan Nurse. There is abit of a wait though. Otherwise get through Amazon, their returns/money back procedure is swift. Hope this is helpful xx
People can be so pompous they think they know itall, I have never been that heartless, but am ashamed to say that because I was already a carer of many years experience that I knew it all. And then my rolls reversed and it took less than a week for me to realise I had known nothing. The perception does in no way ressemble the reality. The unpredictability of it all was such a shock.. But once I got my head round that, you can just accept. I feel at peace with the whole thing. Again thats just me, but I am certain I am not alone in this. lovejill xxx
Hi ham-hat /everyone
I hope you are all doing okay
my hubbys chemo has been postponed and will now start next week apparently due to a mistake the Dr made in the paperwork (so annoying) however he had radiotherapy in Monday and now he’s in quite a lot of pain in the area they blasted. Is that normal? Did that happen to you?
Tessa
Yes thank you we have spoke to a nurse since I posted and had some advice. He’s now got morphine patches whic are helpin to reduce the pain. His chemo should’ve started today but has been postponed to next Thursday due to incorrect paperwork completed by his Dr. That was really frustrating and upsetting for us but can you do!
Hi Tessa B
sorry to read your husband is struggling after his treatment, this happens to most people after treatment. I see you have sort help and you are being supported. I know you must be disappointed about the chemotherapy delay but I'm sure it won't be delay to long.
Some honest advice at this time would be things always seem to get worse before they get better. So take heart, once the chemotherapy cycles are complete things get much easier. I have completed the chemotherapy/immunotherapy part of my treatment plan and I am continuing with immunotherapy it is much easier dealing with this in its own. There are some side effects to deal with but they are much milder, these days going to the hospital every 3 weeks is the thing I dread most. Whilst I understand your husband is your priority please make sure you take care of yourself. He will get through this with much support, his best support will come from you. So please take care of yourself, don't be afraid to ask questions and get support, we are a great bunch of people here only to happy to support each other so if you need us give us a shout.
In the meantime try to enjoy Easter and the nice weather we are forecast.
Hugs for now Donna
