Hi everyone, I have just moved from Ipswich to London and thought the transition from one hospital to another would be fairly smooth but I have not found that to be the case. It seems that my new GP cannot refer me straight to Oncology to continue treatment and has had to refer me to Respiratory Clinic instead. Been 6 weeks now and still no idea when I will be seen. Has anyone else been through this scenario?
Hi bloggerbill have you contacted your oncology team in Ipswich to see if they can transfer you to a London hospital? It doesn’t seem right that you have to go right back to the beginning again because you have moved.
Hi
Chelle is correct; hospital to hospital hand overs/transfers is a regular process without going via the GP.. Your current situation is probably down to an admin cock-up somewhere in the process; NHS Admin is generally atrocious.
Please get in touch with your original Oncology as a matter of urgency and ask them to liaise with their Oncology counter parts at the London hospital.
Going through treatment is tough enough without the addition of this unnecessary obstacle,
Kegsy x
Thank you both for your replies. I did phone my original Oncology to try and do something but had to leave a voice mail message which has not been answered yet.
Some possible progress is that I have just received a letter from new hospital informing me that I have got a telephone appointment with someone tomorrow morning. Not sure at the moment who it is with though as it didn't say.
That sounds reassuring bloggerbill, hopefully it will all be sorted soon x
It would have been reassuring but they didn't phone me. No contact details so I can't phone them to ask what is going on. Will try to make appointment with GP as soon as I can.
I feel like just giving up!
Oh don't even think about giving up.
Have you double checked your appointment letter as it should have a telephone number on it?
Kegsy x
Oh no! How annoying! Kegsy is right there should be a contact number on there. This is frustrating, but don’t give up! Xx
Finally I am getting somewhere. Someone suggested that I contact the Consultant at my last hospital. Well he rang me late last week and I explained how things were/were not going and he said he would contact the Oncology team at my new hospital. Something worked because I now have an appointment for a CT scan next Tuesday and an appointment with the Respiratory clinic the week after.
Many thanks for all your advice and support. As I live alone this community is becoming very important to me.
Hi bloggerbill.
Great news that the transfer is now going ahead as it should!

That is very good to hear bloggerbill. Please let us know how you get on next week x
