Hi after having 3 courses of antibiotics my cough won’t budge. My gp sent me for a X-ray on Friday I phoned my gp today to see if the results are back but there not. How long did you guys wait on your results. Am 48 & a smoker

  • Hi Scotty

I think you might have to keep chasing your GP or contact the radiology department and ask them. If there are any suspicions the next step would probably be. CT scan but that’s just my guess. It would also depend on where you live. Maybe one of the MacMillan nurses would be able to help.

Perhaps someone else here may be able to help. I hope all goes well for you.

  • Thank you for replying I am beside myself with worry.

  • Hi Scotty, the wait is torture isn’t it. Mine was within a week, but that was several years ago very much pre covid, and everything is very much different now.  No 2 hospitals will be working the same with regards to time scale, so I think it is going to be a waiting game I’m sorry to say.

If it was your GP who ordered the X-ray then this is who will be sent the report. Hopefully it won’t be much longer.

  • I had an initial scan as part of the Lung Health Check pilot followed by another CT scan for an initial diagnosis. I agree with Chelle that the wait for more information and next steps are very challenging. Anxiety is awful. For me, my first steps were to continue my normal life and fill up time with TV box sets. Try anything that will keep your mind busy. These days it’s called mindfulness. My going to sleep tips are listen to a an audio book or practice some sleep hypnosis, try UTube.
Whatever the outcome (it could be something else) the support here is great.
