I thought the pain under my left brest was a broken rib. Good old Dr google. Anyway after 4 weeks of the pain not going away I went to my GP on Monday who sent me to hospital as he was concerned it may be a pulmonary embolism. An xray showed an area of concern and a furthe CT scan showed a 32mm tumour they suspect is malignant. I had a further scan of my abdomen and it was clear luckily.

I am 65 and have mild COPD. Yes I am a smoker. I feel so guilty for smoking. I tried so many times to stop. Im waiting now to hear what happens next i know they discuss cases each week at MDT meetings but im so worried that because of my age and smoking and COPD that they won't try as hard to help me

I know i have quite a wait now to find out what it is and will need a bronchosopy to do a biopsy but that's all I know

For me this will be the 2nd time. 33 years ago I had ovarian cancer which after surgery and horrendous chemo they managed to eradicate it

  • It's over 5 years since my last ciggie... (20plus a day) after numerous attempts we went to see practice nurse... We both had tablets.... So no cold turkey feelings...... But despite this my husband has stage 4 nslc.... Don't beat yourself up just concentrate on yourself...

  • Il do it,I done it 3yr ago cold turkey,so I know I can do it ,I had stopped for 2yr after my biopsy, then covid made me restart, how is your hubby doing? It was nice lung cancer I had my right upper lobe removed and luckily no treatment,

  • Well not a cig from lastnight,so defo more positive about it,actually thinking cigs make me more anxious as I'm pretty chilled ,when do u go.in for you operation?is it just one lobe that's coming out?

  • Hi hubby has had 3 rounds so far of triple therapy... With a contrast(?) CT scan on Sunday to see if there has been any improvement... 1 more triple on Tuesday after Easter. Hoping they contue with immunotherapy..... Its such a bumpy journey.... And very scary...... Things have been better once the plan was put in place.... You must find the waiting awful.. We did xxx

  • Well done, I’m so glad you’re feeling so positive.

As for me, I still have to meet the surgeon. It’s the upper right lobe and in 4-6 weeks time. The sooner the better from my point of view but the waiting is OK now I know what’s happening. All this Grimacing very likely to clash with my 70th Birthday, our 20th Wedding Anniversary and my oldest daughter’s visit from New Zealand. It couldn’t have been timed better Grimacing! The events are all in June and we were having a family get together. It’ll be bedside now.

We haven’t seen my daughter for over 2 years because of Covid. It’ll be a celebration to remember xx

  • I was very fortunate with my op and didn't need any sort therapy as it wasn't in lymph nodes ,I was in and out of hospital after 3 days ,awe you'll have missed your daughter soo much, covid has been a big strain on everyone, soo hopefully you won't have a long stay as keyhole surgery the healing is a lot quicker and fingers crossed you'll be able to celebrate your anniversary  birthday etc,soo much going on for you,I hope your recovery is fastxx

  • They’ve said the stay in hospital could be as little overnight but 3 days seems more realistic. How long did it take to recover some fitness? I’m so looking forward to meeting the surgeon. Apparently he can be a bit abrupt but currently I don’t care as long as all goes well.

    Thank you xx

  • I was fine couple weeks, do u live in scotland
