Hi Everyone,
My sister was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to her spine and brain. Life expectancy 3-6 months but her Oncologist says she has seen people beat this so we are clinging to that. She is currently being treated through the Royal Free Hospital in London and they are great but she really wants to move to the countryside and have some greenery and space around her.
I have been trying to research hospitals in the south west of England to see what would be a good area to move to but I can't seem to find much useful info for outside London or Liverpool.
Does anyone have any recommendations/experiences/suggestions?
I was looking at Southmead but on a deeper dive, not so sure???
Thanks!
Hi Chocoholic, welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here. How wonderful that your sister has you to look out for her and make her move possible.
With the life expectancy that the oncologist has suggested, can I ask if your sister is on any treatment or is it palliative care? The reason I ask is because if she is on no further treatment then her care will be passed to the GP rather than the hospital, which may make a difference to where she moves? X
Hi Chellesimo,
Thanks for replying.
Fortunately, there is chemo tablet for her variant. She has been on it for almost 3 months and is due for her first scan to see how she is reacting to treatment.
So depending on how that appt goes, we are hoping to move to a quieter location in the countryside.
That sounds very promising. Your sisters oncologist should be able to advise you on a hospital/ consultant. The other option would be to stay with the oncologist that your sister is currently seeing, as long as she is able to travel for scans etc. As she is having chemo tablets I would think the hospital visits are not that often?
Hi Chocoholic,
I’m really sorry to hear about your sisters diagnosis. My dad is currently going through lung cancer treatment and we’re based in Bath, in South West of England, his hospital is the Royal United Hospital (RUH) and they’ve been absolutely brilliant. I would recommend there as a good starting point to look around, hope that helps x
