Hi Ninny, welcome to the group, but sorry to hear about your mum. The dye that your mum has mentioned, sounds like a PET scan, which will give a more detailed image of your mums cancer.
There are lots of different types of chemotherapy, and not everyone reacts the same way, so it is hard to say how your mum will react.
It must be so hard when you are so far away. Are there any other other family members you can talk too?
