I have just been diagnosed with lung cancer, and don't now where to start to sort out how i feel or even understand any of it, does anyone have any advice please
Hello Hahmatt, I was diagnosed with lung cancer 6 weeks ago, and when I was told the news by the doctor I was shocked and devastated.
I would imagine that you feel the same way. When I was first diagnosed, my first thought was that my life would soon be over.
Over the next few weeks I went for a series of tests and scans so that the Doctor could establish what type of cancer I have, how big the tumour is, so that he can decide on a treatment plan for me. I have had 14 hospital visits.
I hope to have all the information in, and treatment decision in the next two weeks.
I would imagine that the same will happen to you,. Most of the scans and tests are painless, and trouble free. It is a process that you need to go through in order to have the best chance of successful treatment.
At my hospital there is a group of lung health nurses who are available on the phone to answer the questions you may have. They are angels, always ready to listen and advise you, no matter what you want to know
Make use of this forum to help you understand what is happening. There are many success stories here.
Lung cancer is a serious illness, and it is frightening.
But it can be cured.
Go through the tests, talk to the lung health nurses, and try to stay positive. There are many of us in the same situation.
Good luck.
Thank for your reply, it’s good to know I’m not alone, I’m so scared of the not knowing
Yes, the not knowing is very hard. But until the hospital has completed all the tests, they can't tell you how serious it is, and can't offer treatment.
The waiting is hard, and worrying. I hope you soon start on the tests, and good luck.
Hi there Hamhat! I was diagnosed just about 5 months ago. Doctor, hospital and everything was great. As were McMillan. If you have any worries there’s people to support you. I thought I was totally doomed. last scan came back on the plus side. Surprised me! It’s shit, but live in hope! I find other people find it harder to deal with. Keep nagging for appointments xx
I got a appointment with the lung team on 5th jan so I might know more then in the meantime I am scared
