Does it get better?

Morning all,

Im just looking for some positive stories etc. My Dad has SCLC and now having radiotherapy due to small tumours on the brain.

He finished a cycle of chemo and immunotherapy, then was on immunotherapy, then we did the brain scan so he’s now started 5 sessions of radiotherapy with 2 more cycles of chemo to start on Thursday.

His Oncologist is happy with his progress of the liver and lungs, just a set back with the tumours. I got married on Saturday, my Dad did amazing! He was very mentally drained from it, it was a very emotional day! He was tearful last night and told my Mum he’s had enough of it all, treatment and just feeling rubbish, he wants his old life back! Whilst I see further treatment as hope, he’s drained.

Does this get any easier?

  • Hi Lucie. Congratulations on the wedding! I am so glad that your Dad was able to enjoy the day.

I wish I had a magic wand and I could tell you it will get better for your Dad. I can understand how he must be feeling fed up and tired with all that he has been through already.  All I can say is your Dad will find his strength from somewhere to continue. When my mum had ovarian cancer and had several chemo's and trial drugs, she was at the point that your Dad is now. She kept saying she wasn't having anymore treatment, and that she had had enough. Until a chance encounter with the singer Peter Andre changed that for her. He told her not to give up, and she went on to have more treatment after that, which gave us an extra year with her that we wouldn't of had.

You have all had an emotional weekend, give your Dad time to rest and he will be back on form I am sure xx
