Hi help1, welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here. It is very scary when a loved one is diagnosed with this terrible disease. There is so much treatment now available for lung cancer, and there are a few of us here who are incurable but treatable, and have been for some time. Once you know what treatment your mum will be on, there will be people here in this lung group who can share their experience with you.
