I hope this is the correct section I have posted in, as I keep gettimg it wrong.

After a routine chest x ray something suspicious was spotted, so straight away had a CT scan as there was a space.

Findings 5cms lung lesion ( or mass as they call it, as bigger than 3cms) & 1 inflamed lymph node.

Sent for PET/Ct scan being done this Friday 7th Feb & head MRI no date yet & a lung function test, which he had today. He said he "failed" it, they tried all different ways of doing it, but screen readings werent good. No idea what happens now. If the clip wasnt on his nose he could have done it no problems.

Hes now totally deflated & said " he thinks he'll be dead by the end of the month".

He has no symptoms, apart from right hand & both legs swelling, which hes suffered with since a stroke 7 yrs ago, but the last month as got pretty bad, but hes not going out much due to weather.

I'm beside myself myself with worry & literally dread each day starting worrying about whats to come.

It seems this failed test today as sealed his fate....

Within less than 2 wks lifes gone from normal to a living hell.

As anyone else gone through & come out with anything but cancer?

I've Googled everyday since this all started, I know I shouldnt but I cant stop looking for hope.

I just dont get how someone can breathe ok no cough but put a clip on his nose he breath through tube & still doesnt cough.

  • Hey, sounds like you guys are panicking which is understandable but not helpful. The next thing is to try and get calm again. Noone wants to get into this situation but many do and manage to climb out the other side.

The tests they want to carry out are all standard routine procedure. There may be any number of reasons why he 'failed' the lung function test. There are so many treatment options out there now so don't worry. It's really good that there are no symptoms. Please update after all the tests are done. People here have been through and survived all kinds of treatments and will no doubt give you support and advice. Just ask!

    All the best

  • Hello Tillyboo, I'm very sorry you have found it necessary to be here but you are sure to get some good practical and reassuring advice.

First of all please stop scaring yourself by googling - I now it's very tempting but you cannot be sure that information you find there is accurate or up to date so it can't be relied upon.

You have outlined all the tests that have yet to be carried out, and until these (and any others yet to be decided on) are completed and results are considered by the medical team you can't be sure what the extent of the problem is and what treatments will be put forward. There are many treatments available depending on individual circumstances and you can be assured he will receive the best possible.

The lung function test is just one small part of tests and investigations and the results will be looked at by the medical team alongside all other investigation results when a treatment plan is put forward.

All is not lost, but unfortunately we all have all had to endure the anxious and frightening wait for tests to be done before appropriate treatment can start. Maybe yry to focs on the fact that there are no specific symptoms which has to be a good sign right now.

I wish you all the best for now.

  • I agree with Gilpat & execavator, I think you are getting yourself all worked up and googling everything makes it even worse, focus on the fact not got any symptoms it’s always best to wait for the results, I know it’s very worrying time for you but try to focus on the positive so much treatment out there these days. I wish you all the best please do let us know how things are when you know the results.

i have recently started chemotherapy I have stage 4 lung cancer I am trying to stay positive and strong. There is plenty of support on this platform Pray tone1HeartPray tone1

  • Hi Tillyboo

I understand you are in panic mode so —- deep breaths .Everyone here have been through the same situation and much worse and we are still all here . These are all routine tests A PET scan lights up on ant cancer so that usually confirms an action is needed Also a ct measure different things to a PET scan .As far as I know lung patients always seem to have a brain scan just to check .We are not doctors but I have been through all of this the same as your partner. Also a biopsy confirms a cancer

i had no symptoms when I first went for something else The lung tests are to ascertain which if any treatment is needed or even operation .i understand about tge clip i hated it ! I m not sure but on one test they did allow me to hold my nose instead If he has to do anymore you could ask but it is to test your lung capacity .Seriously don t google There is lots of information on the macmillan and nhs sites I would suggest you only use those .Please feel free to ask me any more things but I can only tell you my story and it’s not medical advice .We are all here to help as we understand what you are going through but wait until you get results first otherwise you will be a wreck before you start

Be brave thinking if you and update us when you can

  • Ok thank u.

The PET/CT scan hes having on Friday is from the skull down to mid thigh, we thought it was just for the lung & the MRI ( awaiting date) was for the head.

We dont know if they've decided to put the head scan onto the PET/CT scan or if hes still got to have the head MRI.

We also thought he was just having a PET scan but this says on letter PET/CT scan.

We cant ask a doctor, as he doesnt have one. This all started with his yearly post stroke GP review & she said wait till all tests are back & then he'll see a hospital doctor. So no doctors to ask anything to

  • PET/CT is a PET scan that lights up CT is separate and marked as Ct but a PET always says PET/CT hope this explains it for you
