Have had pet scan told by surgeon he's sure it's cancer. Have had a plotting ct scan for biopsy. Cancer is at bottom of right lung can't go in with a needle through side as so have to go down the throat and there not sure if they will be able to get a sample. Have been told bottom third of right lung will have to be removed. Told if they cannot carry out biopsy they will take biopsy while I'm on the operating table then decide whether to proceed with the operation. I have been told the procedure will take place within the next 14 days and am waiting for a call to tell me to stop taking aspirin which I am taking for an aortic aneurysm and am due surgery after I recover from the lung operation. It takes 10 days for the aspirin to get out of the system. I am afraid that this cancer will spread in the mean time. I haven't slept since I was told 6weeks ago and am very afraid as I am 69 and have never had any type of operation in my life
The waiting is slowly draing me of my energy and I can't relax waiting for the dreaded phone call. I started off positive it's the dam waiting! Any advice?
Hi Brian
So very sorry that you have cause to be on here.
If it helps, all of us on here have been down this same road. You hear the word 'cancer' and you expect flashing blue lights and sirens to get you to the treatment. You also imagine that with every minute that passes the cancer must be running rampant. Neither scenarios will happen. Trust me, behind the scenes the hospital will be working to get your procedures scheduled and to notify you regarding the aspirin. In the interim if the cancer does grow very, very, very slightly, it will not impact on the surgery or its outcome.
Worrying is natural, however it is not beneficial to your general well-being. Do you have someone to talk to and/or support you through all of this?

Hi Brian 543 , I can understand your frustration of waiting times but all the doctors must meet and plan your operation and how to proceed as you also have the aneurysm , as for the aspirin I'm not sure about , I am on warfarin and I had to come off it 5 days prior to my op then I was admitted a day early so start me on heparin .
I was to have my op via VATS but surgeon did say if they couldn't reach it then it would change to the full op, I think they have to tell you that this might happen , just to cover all bases
Is there no one you can ask about the aspirin, your lung nurse or GP, your consultant will know about the aspirin so it might be when you receive your letter /phone call to be admitted it will tell you then what to do about it .
Brian , I know it isn't easy when everything is running through your head but do try and get your sleep and relax a bit more .
Take care x
