My recent diagnosis with lung cancer was made after I had had a persistent cough for several weeks. Although my tumour is quite large I still only have the cough as a symptom.
I am told that it has not spread, and I am due to start treatment in January. Is there anyone out there who has been in a similar position? I would like to know if and when during treatment the cough might stop.
Hi, so far, so good....can you see my reply to Chantie? All the best, Gadjo
Hi muffin break, im interested in your last scan on osimertinib, and how did it go for uou
Hiya Ronson22, when I had my 1st scan back in Oct it showed my tumer had shrunk from 24 to 16. This last scan showed all was still stable. Would have been nice to hear it had shrunk even more but maybe next time. But I'm happy the way things are going. Are you being put on Osimertinib?
Hey Muffin Break, im on tagrisso now for four months, and ive been keeping an eye on you.
I was diagnosed last April with stage iv NSLC , primary upper left lobe, almosst 4cm with multiple nodules, also it had spread into my right lung with multiple nodules also, omg im 45 and hiking 50 miles a week, I had quit smoking and was left with a nagging cough, =XRAY= emergency admittance =broncoscipy= diagnosis and terrible prognosis of six months, a year if i was lucky, so they threw the kitchen sink at me, in may put on chemo imuno triplet=Carboplatin, alymta/prem, and keytruda, the onc said he was still waiting om results from the lab, so i was in total shock and didn't what results he was waiting on, 5 months later after the sixed cycle of the triplet, i had minimal responce to treatment, only few mill shrinksge, and some and a new nodule, he said l have great news for you, you are EGFR +, if he had known this last may he wouldn't have put me on chemo, so he prescribed 8g osimertinib to start straight away,
lile you i had amazing results, after three months, primary 3.7cm shrunk to 2.1cm and nodules all significantly diminished in size amazing stuff, but you have a spot on your right hip which has stablized, but some small spots also on left high, but he thinks tagrisso will clear them, maybe, I will know on next scan in march, anyway tagrisso is like a new lease of life, and im constantly worrying about progression in tagrisso and going back to chemo, also they mentioned zometa, gives me more anxiety, and where were those results sitting for more than five months, has anyone else waited like this for results , im glad your doing well on tagrisso muffin break
Hi Ronson22 yes you have been through the mill at the start but really great things are are better for you now you are on tagrisso. Still young at 45, are you still hiking. Hope things keep improving for you. Have you had many side affects from tablet
Hi muffin break, No im not hiking right now, but have do start again soon, its taken a good while to get some strength back after all summer on triplet, everything just improved after starting tagrisso,
As for side effects from yhe tablet, initially a teally bad outbreak of spots and rash on face and back, very itchy, im on minocycline and anti histamine for that, Have some waves of fatigue, that comes and goes, l hate napping so now i just resist getting into bed, and then I'll s gone, she me leg cramps, but on a scale of things l have minimal side effects, im lrish and don't think tagrisso is here that long,
Yes I had spots, sore fingers, fatigue, I hate napping but if I don't my wife won't speak to me lol not a bad thing I couldn't wait to start playing walking football. I had operation to remove tumer but the cancer was to advanced so they stitch me back up. When the specialist came round to tell me the bad news I couldn't believe it my head was all over the place, and as you know it affects all family members. Anyway I got through that? When I saw my lung surgeon, this is before treatment I asked him how long have I got he said 1yr approx. They were still waiting for some biopsy result they had most of them but still waiting for two to come back. This was in June, he would not start any treatment till they had them. So I waited and waited to hear then one morning got phone call from consultant to say they have received biopsy results and can I came into hospital today so we can discuss treatment. He put me on Osimertinib and hopefully il stay on them and keep getting good results.
Yeah you were right to wait, l think I got lost in the system for a while, lt bothers me because in that time i got mets to my hips, but hopefully the tablet will clear them up, yes its hard to get your head around that initial prognosis, l found it really wierd when writing it down, on forms etc and just seeing the word cancer beside mine, yes l hope we get a long time out of this amazing pill, , you know they have new Tki on the market in korea, its on trial in usa, its called lazertinib, amd looks promising for egfr resistance
Hiya Ronson22 yes there are some really good treatments for cancer Coming to the NHS, there is one called Sotorasib which I've heard can get rid of tumers in some cases. I'm going to ask my Dr on my next appointment about it. Just finished playing walking football knackered now take care
