Hi all,

Not sure anyone will be able to help with this but thought it was worth a shot.
Over two years post throat cancer without problem but recently needed a chest x ray  for a damaged muscle problem. That x ray showed up a shadow on my right upper lobe.

About to get a CT scan but in the mean time does anyone have experience with the speed that a tumour might develop? Just over two years ago i had a Pet scan which showed nothing, This has been checked again and nothing there.
Can tumour actually grow from nothing to being able to picked up on a standard chest x ray in two years?

Thanks all

  • Hi viking30, sorry you find yourself here after having throat cancer.  I had a ct scan 1 year before my lung cancer was diagnosed by an X-ray, so yes unfortunately it can happen that way. I hope you don’t have to wait too long for the ct scan so you can get the answer as to what is going on.

    Take care

    1. A shadow does not always mean cancer, it could be an infection.

Yes thankyou Sharon, Doctors discounted infection as a i have no cough at all and no raised white count. Simply just a pain when i take a deep breath. I was thinking intercostal muscle strain as if i take an anti inflamatory pain stops.
My history of throat cancer sets bells ringing with doctors and in some ways thats good.
Off for a ct scan in a couple of hours so maybe in a few days i get a better picture.
Thank you for the reply and i'll get back to the thread once i have more news, good or bad.
    Take care
