Does anybody know anyone who is doing well on their cancer journey at the same time getting separated and divorced? Just that they say stress reduces the immune system so just a question?

  • Hi Nel. Yes I got divorced after being diagnosed.  I’ve since met my current partner and we are planning to marry ( no date yet thanks to covid)

  • Hi Chelle

thanks for that. Can’t tell you how much I appreciate your reply. Tough times!

  • It’s bloody awful. You think you are at your lowest, then they throw that at you. My husband admitted he was having an affair soon after I was diagnosed. He got drunk on whisky, and it all came out. He emotionally left that night. I decided I needed to concentrate on me and my health, so within the month I had filed for divorce. He moved in with her, but has left her too now.  I’m far happier now. My other half fell in love with me knowing I had incurable cancer. There are good ones out there.

  • hi Chelle

yes it really is the last pile of crap you need when it’s tough enough! I wish mine was having an affair! Would be easier but mine is a controlling problem. Don’t like to hang out my dirty washing for all to see on here but suffice to say it’s unpleasant! We’ll see. Don’t want the stress while I’m hoping to build myself up but Either way it’s stress. Thank you so much. Not something I can talk to just anyone about. Our friendliness but with a little anonymity help.

  • My divorce was 10 years ago, but I still remember how awful it was. But I thought to myself at the time, if I only have x amount of time left here, I just knew I deserved better, and I wasn’t prepared to spend my final years being miserable.

  • Hi Little fi

thank you. I’m in the contemplation phase but life sure does keep hitting us with curved balls just when we think we’ve had the biggest!

    kind regards

  • Hi Nel,

I think what we’re having to deal with does make us sit up and evaluate the things that make us happy/sad and address it.

It’s time to put yourself first!

    All the best.
