After suposedly suffering with pnemonia for about 5 months turns out it was lung cancer..also in a few lymph nodes.. stupid doctors ..only seen 6 gp,s about persistant cough and feeling unwell and 1doc at hosp who did xray 4 weeks apart..who still told me pnemonia and i would get better soon... im so mad at them for not picking this up sooner.... why didnt they??im never ill and never go the doctors ..unless neccesary
. seen oncologist today ..im to go for a body map scan monday and then radiotherapy 5x 15 minutes over 5 days.. .. is this enough to shrink this..its leaning on my windpipe.. im hearing others have 4 weeks and 6 weeks of radiotherapy... they then said scan later on then chemo due to the lymph nodes..
All answers greatfully received .. thanks in advance
Hi jammyjack and welcome to our group.
Now although I am not standing up for the doctors, because I had issues with my own GP around diagnoses myself, but I do think that sometimes an X-ray doesn’t always show lung cancer, especially if there is an infection in the way. This doesn’t excuse the time it took to diagnose you, and I’m sorry you feel let down. When I had my issue with my GP, I was extremely angry, and at the time I was asked if I wanted to put in a formal complaint, but you know, I just thought, what’s the point? It wouldn’t change anything now.
I only had 5 sessions of radiotherapy myself. My tumour was in my bronchial airway and my lung was struggling near to collapsing. The 5 sessions shrunk my tumour by 50%. I didn’t have any chemo, as my tumours are now being kept stable by hormone treatment, but there will be others on here that will be able to offer advice on that.
Wishing you luck with your treatment.
hi jammyjack. sorry that you have found yourself here. when i went to my doctors with really bad cough was sent for xray. when it came back they said they have never seen such a clear pair of lungs. passed me on to hospital as cough would not go. found i had lung carncer. they said body parts were hiding the cancer from view. that was coming up to 3 yr. still alive and kicking. lots of new treatments around.TC
