My chemo was cancelled today because of my white cell count. I have to eat to bring it up in a week. Please what has worked for any of you?

  • Hi, I hope someone can help with what to eat.  Did they not tell you what specifically they had in mind that you should eat?  When my husband’s chemo was delayed because of low white cell count he was given injections to bring home and inject into the stomach area for a few days (well. I had to do it!) and he needed those for the rest of his chemo.  I can only suggest that if it is not up in a week ask about injections (can’t think of the name at the moment) but someone will know or I will find it later.  Worth asking rather than cancelling xx

  • Hi again, these were the injections my husband had to use.

‘G-CSF (granulocyte-colony stimulating factor) is a type of drug called a growth factor. It increases the number of some types of blood cells in the blood. It can be used with chemotherapy.’

After he had a delay twice in even finishing cycle 1 (due to low white blood cells), these were prescribed for the rest of the 4 cycles and he never had a delay again.  Maybe worth asking about, all the very best Judyx

Thanks Judy. I just cannot eat. It makes me feel so I'll. I will keep trying g little bits this week and see. If no improvement I will ask about injections.

    Hi Kimmy

I've had the same thing.  Up your broccoli and red pepper Intake and they may give you injections after your next chemo as that will boost your production of white blood cells.

    Wishing you all the best

    Hi Kimmy,

I have a similar problem and I am on Filgrastim self injections. I was also recommended to eat broccoli and red pepper to assist in boosting my white blood cell count.

    Wishing you all the best
