Hi I'm 4 weeks post surgery for  full left lung removal I thought I would be brreathing easier by now

  • Hi, you are in the very early stages of recovery, it can take a few months for full lung function to recover. If you are at all worried about your breathing, it becomes more difficult or painful, then do contact your lung nurse for advice.

  • Thank you so much is will do as you suggest  plus I think we've had continuous  heat waves since my discharge  and I don't think it's helping

  • Hello ,

Chelle is right, it's early days for you just yet, and you're right that the current weather will not be help.

I had my right lung removed just over 12 years ago and recovery took quite some time. You need to continue exercising if you can and walking, gradually building up distance, is very good for initial recovery. After that your "new" level of fitness will likely depend on your pre-surgery fitness.

Try not to overdo it but don't hold back if you feel like doing more, your body will soon tell you to rest for a while. Eventually you'll reach the point of new normal breathing.

    All the best,

    Derek.
