Hi all has anyone had this procedure and it been successful, my mum has stage 4 lung cancer and can’t have any treatment . She has been struggling with her breathing and has been admitted back to hospital as the fluid has built up again. She was discharged in June after having aspiration of only 1.5 litres and there was 3to 4 litres in . So she’s having the drain in today and has already drained 3 lites just waiting for it to finish and the talc can be administered has anyone had any success of the talc working and the fluid not coming back .

  • Hi Kat334

I am sorry that you have not yet had a response to your question but sometimes it can take a little while for someone to see it and respond. By me doing so it will bump your post and hopefully someone who has experience the plural infusion with talc will see it and respond.

I am sorry to hear of Mum's lung cancer and that she has been struggling with her breathing. I hope that the drain has helped to reduce the fluid so that she is more comfortable.

I did find some information on the procedure that may be helpful in explaining it.

We do also have the Support Line available where you can talk to one of the nurses if you wanted a bit more information. They are available from 8am-8pm daily.

Hopefully someone who has experienced the same treatment will respond with some more specific advice now, but in the meantime we are here if there is anything that you need.
