Hi all,

I have been told I'm having surgery, no other treatment. I was wondering if anybody knows or has an idea how long after being told , you have the surgery. I was told last Tuesday about surgery and a brain scan on Wednesday.

Thankyou

  • Hi  they will certainly try and do the surgery as soon as possible, mine was slightly different as my op was via a bronchoscopy and had to be done as a matter of urgency as my airway was blocked. I really think it does depend on where you are and what hospital you are under, there seems to be a lot of strain in the hospitals at the moment with Nirovirus and a respiratory infection that is doing the rounds. All these things have a knock on effect, but be prepared it will probably be sooner rather than later.

  • Hi Jnet

Same situation for me, plan was surgery and then hopefully no further treatment. I was referred to another hospital for the operation and after seeing the surgeon it was about 6 weeks until I had it. Good luck, hope all goes well for you x

  • Hi ,

    • Thankyou,  gosh as long as that,  I'm fretting now, never mind another 6 wks that the cancer is growing and spreading. Have you had your surgery and doing well xx
  • Hello ,

Thankyou.  I hope you are doing well xx

  • Hi, I think the wait depends on the hospital and also I have rheumatoid arthritis and had just had a steroid injection so they like to wait 4 weeks at least after that in case it interferes with healing, so fingers crossed you may be seen quicker. I spend the wait trying to get as fit as I could, I did a lot of walking! Also filled my freezer with meals for when I came home so I didn't have to worry about meal prep etc. I've just had a CT scan at one year post op and all good. I was fortunate to be able to just have the surgery with no chemo after. Feel free to ask anything, the good folk on here have some great advice to give, big hugs x Jill

    • Oh well done , and you sounded very organised. I'm whittling , but i guess once the doctors have all the results in, they know what they are dealing with ,  very nervous ha ha. I hope. So pleased all went well for you xx
  • Haha Jnet, I wish I could say it was because I was organised but it was just something to fill the time in, I was as nervous as you I think. Hope you get your date soon x

    • I will let you know. Like everyone who is dealt with evil disease,  we just want treatment,  and continue with our lives as best we can . I think keeping busy is the key , and as hard as it can be , it does help x
  • Hello Jnet,

I'm not sure how long you'll have to wait for surgery and guess it probably depends on resources and demand in your area - however it should be pretty soon.

I waited about 4 weeks but that was 10.5 years ago - but the good news is that my lung cancer has not recurred since.

I sincerely hope your operation is as successful as mine has been so far.
