My partner, diagnosed squamous cell lung cancer last year,is now having 4X5 sessions of radiotherapy. On the last week of treatment this week. He’s losing weight, not a lot but radiologist  says he needs to keep his weight up. He’s usually a very eater, but last couple of weeks he’s lost all interest in food. What have others found to help. I’m putting him on full fat milk and have stocked a goodie cupboard for him. What are peoples views on supplement drinks and any recommendations.

thank you

  • I have been finding I am losing weight during treatment like your partner,  its been suggested to change milk as you have done,  when my husband had Terminal cancer some years ago  we found food suppliments were the only thing he could swallow and his appetite was very poor. So far I have been advised in my case to eat high protien food if possible. An old fashioned food for poor appetite is egg custard, thin soup , my father-in-law loved chocolate  in this weather how about ice lollies, cool drinks . Maybe your partner needs more time following radiotheropy to get there appetite back , personally I am eating more yogurts and cream caramels, mash with gravy,  milky sauces like custard. Scrambled egg with cheese is soft and tasty, easy to swallow.  Hope theres a few ideas for you. Best wishes

  • Thank you very much
