My MDT is this coming Wednesday - 6th December and Respiratory Consultant meeting on Thursday, and I was wondering if someone could tell me, on the assumption that I need surgery to remove the mass in my left lung apex, roughly how long is the time between Wednesday / Thursday and the actual date of surgery? Is it days, weeks, or months? Would it be before Christmas? The only reason I am asking, is the fact that my wife suffers from Alzheimers and gets very stressed when things happen out of the normal so I need to try and manage expectations as best as I can. Thanks for any advice and don’t let the bugger grind you down. Staying positive and still doing the five miles with the dogs every day.
Hi Dolydd
Until you get your treatment plan you will not know if an operation is an option. As for the potential timescales, it the classic 'how long is a piece of string' question. If I was you I would be asking all these questions this week at the scheduled meetings;
What ever the outcomes of this weeks meetings, I wish you the very best.

Hi Dolydd I can understand how stressful this must be for you, and how you have extra complications with your wife having Alzheimers. The timescale question is an impossible question for us to answer unfortunately, because there are so many factors that come into play. If they think it is life threatening you will go in straight away, but routine surgery differs from each hospital, with so many factors having to be taken into consideration. Your health, the staff levels, it can just come down to whether there is a bed available.
The best option is to discuss this with your consultant so he can give you a timescale. There are people here who can tell you how quickly they were seen, but it doesn’t mean it will apply to you. For instance I was operated on within 2 weeks, but I have known people to wait 2 months!
Good luck this week, let us know how you get on.
