A simple question

Good evening: I have recently had a CT Scan, Bronchoscopy and PET Scan. All the appropriate blood tests which were taken when I saw the consultant, were within normal values.

They have had a MDT today and evidently a nurse is calling me tomorrow morning.

My question, can I start to feel more positive? Surely they wouldn’t have a nurse tell someone that they have cancer over the phone? Bit brutal if so.

Thank you for your knowledge and kindness and I look forward to hearing your views.

  • Hi

The experience I have had with my dad is that the CT scan confirmed lung cancer and the lung cancer specialist nurse let us know without delay that it was definitely cancer. That was 7 days after the initial call to say that something was wrong with the chest X-ray. I am unsure why they haven’t confirmed already? My understanding was that they wouldn’t be discussing you at MDT unless you had a definite diagnosis?

  • Hi  such an anxious wait for you. It really is a case of holding tight and waiting for the answers I’m afraid, no one can guess the outcome. Even with an MDT I have known people to be told no treatment is necessary. I think protocols have changed since covid, and more people are being told results over the phone than in person, but even for myself back in 2014 I was told by my GP over the phone that my routine X-ray showed I had lung cancer.

Good luck for the results today. We will be here to support you whatever the results, but really pray for positive news for you.
