Looking for a bit of advice re my mum who is based in the uk
At 77, She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in Dec 2022, with g12c mutation
January she started immunotherapy-Atezolizumab.
After the third dose she developed severe pmr and was put on steroids, morphine etc
Then a catalogue of events followed: acute constipation, perforated bowel, Hartmann, osteoporosis related spinal partial collapse. All meaning she has been in and out of hospital for the last three months and in a lot of pain- she is still has a lot of back pain, which we are trying to get to get on top of
Her last immunotherapy was march and last scan was about 4 weeks ago. It showed excellent reduction in tumour size
Last oncology appointment was a few weeks back
Sadly Immunotherapy is out due to side effects and oncologist advised another scan in 6 months , whilst she continues to suffer acute pain from the spinal issues
I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar? 6 months seems a long time to wait with no scans or treatment- but perhaps there’s no other option??
Hi Jill n I am so sorry to hear that mum has had such a bad reaction to the immunotherapy. It sounds like she has had been through an awful time! She must be in awful amount of discomfort with her back. I hope they are monitoring that and she has advice on how to manage the pain.
6 months does seem like a long time to wait for a scan, but only your mums oncologist will know the decision for this, and whether there are further treatment options. What I can tell you is that once all treatments are exhausted your mums care will no longer be under the oncologist and her care will be passed back to the GP instead. It does not sound like this has happened as they have requested this scan in 6 months time.
Hope mum continues to recover from all of these set backs she has encountered, and will be able to regain her strength over these next few months x
