My mum has been told she has cancer.
she had a bronchoscopy which didn’t get what they needed for a biopsy and is having a different biopsy tomorrow.
she got an infection from the bronchoscopy and is now in hospital helping her fight this infection. She’s now been in for nearly 2 weeks.
is it normal for a lung infection to take longer to heal in a lung cancer patient?
they are now concerned about her hemoglobin levels as they are low, what could this be?
she’s not been eating and has got really skinny, has no energy, just lays in bed in hospital. If chemotherapy is an option how well do you need to be to have it start? I’m concerned that even if she will be able to and choose to have chemo, she’s so poorly she won’t actually be allowed it.
Such a horrible time
Hi PalmtreesandSunshine this really is a worry for you, I am so sorry to hear that mum is so poorly.
Firstly they really need this bronchoscopy to determine what cancer type mum has and what stage. This will determine which treatment she will be able to have. It is really unfortunate that she has picked up an infection from the first bronchoscopy. The low haemoglobin will not be helping her fight this infection.
Chemo can be harsh, and although side effects vary for people, it can make people lose weight, so she may need building up before it starts. There are high calorie protein drinks she can try. Of course it may not be chemo that she is offered. There are so many treatments available for lung cancer, and different cancer types react differently, so it really does depend on this bronchoscopy.
I hope the procedure goes well for mum tomorrow and she is soon feeling better and able to get home. We all feel better once we are in our own home.
