I’m taking my Mum to her biopsy appointment in a few days, I am planning on staying at the hospital with her. It is a CT guided needle biopsy. Hopefully there will no problems and will be out the same day but I just wondered if anyone had any helpful tips or advice on things to bring with us.

And is it likely that I can come in during the procedure to be with her or not (if she wants me to be!)

  • Hi there

Ive not had the same biopsy as your mum however my sister in law did and found it doable

Im not sure that you’ll be able to be in the room that’s something that you maybe able to ask a medic before you go with her

I know CT is radiation so it is worth asking someone in the know

    Good luck

  • Hi Positive, love the name!  I was already in hospital when I had my biopsy 3 weeks ago, so believe I had a nurse with me.  I am well home now and feeling the best I have in ages and back on my feet again, happy days.  I totally agree with Ann, not exactly comfortable, but definately doable.  I was well over it in 3 days.  Again, same advice you can always ask.  I had several biopsies on several nodes and think it took about an hour or so.  Hope this is helpful.  All the very best Positive to you and your mum, be thinking of you.  Jill 59 xx

  • Hi positive!

I was given the choice of a guided biopsy or a biopsy via endoscopy I  couldn’t bear the thought of them putting a camera down my throat so I chose the guided biopsy via CT. It wasn’t fun but it was definitely doable and for me at least definitely the right choice. I was out the same day and had no side effects, if I had to do it again I would.

best of luck to your mum x
