Good afternoon everyone.   Mum has 4cm lung lesion had a biopsy it is cancer but when we arrived at appt yesterday the consultant said they didn’t have full results as they are still being tested for EGFR mutation.     She had mentioned we need these results to decide on treatment.  She had mentioned immunotherapy or chemo.   My mum has never smoked.   Just wondering if anyone has experience or knows about?   Thanks

  • Hi  I believe if mum does have the EGFR mutation then this is treated by targeted therapy which is tablet form. I think you have mentioned previously that it may be a tablet treatment for mum, so that makes sense.

If you go to the search bar at the top of the page and type in EGFR you can read some of the previous discussions on this, whilst you wait for someone to come and share their experience with you x

  • Hi chellesimo I hope your well and thank you for your reply.  I will take a look at this.  Thanks again.

  • We were in similar situation just before Christmas, they took the blood from my mother, who was diagnosed with lung cancer (also never smoked) and sent it to be checked for any mutations.
They took the blood I believe on 23/12 and the results were back by 5th Jan.

we have an appointment this week to start on targeted therapy using Osimertinib medicine.

  • I was diagnosed on 7th December with lung adenocarcinoma,spread to neck..incurable.

I was told I might get Immunotherapy treatment, but once the EGFR mutation results came in,the consultant put me on target specific chemo in tablet form.

I was quite surprised but so far it seems to be working okay for me.

Like your mum I am a non/never smoked person.

I found this part of the wait the worst part because I didn't know what to expect. I did do a lot of research though and went in armed with a lot of questions in case some things weren't covered during the consultation.

Hope things work out for your mum..try not to worry or panic too much and try and take each step as you get there(I know that's difficult)...worrying about everything will make you feel worse.

Concentrate on what can be done and try to let the other stuff go..xx

  • Hi

Thanks  for replying I’m sorry to hear your iin this situation also.  It’s just the waiting we had hoped to find out yesterday but will have to get another appt.     Wishing you and your mum well with her treatment.

  • Hi

Thanks for  replying and sorry to hear of your diagnosis also.    My mum also has bone mets but they have still to do a biopsy on them as they are not sure they are from the lung cancer or a previous breast cancer.   That’s interesting to know there is a chemo tablet also if she is not able to have the immunotherapy tablet.    It is the waiting that is getting to me.   It’s constantly on my mind.  I just want to get her started on treatment. I wish you all the best with your treatment.  Take care.
