My dad has today been told he has a solid mass and it looks very likely it’s lung cancer.
we are awaiting and appointment to be sure.

He has lost about 3 stone in weight over the past year and a half ish and has been exceptionally tired and sleepy.
We had been to the dr to discuss this but they didn’t seem too concerned as he take a lot of drugs and painkillers for osteoporosis.
What I am trying to find out is if tiredness and weight loss is an early or late symptom of lung cancer.
I am feeling pretty terrified of the prospect of trying to manage care and appointments whilst working and not having a very sympathetic boss. I am pretty much the only person to do it .

  • Hi i have stage 4 lung cancer and im not sure about fatigue as i was not on any meds before my diagnosis but i was fatigued but i was always busy and still am to be honest, some treatment side effects also cause fatigue so ask questions i had extra fatigue when i started pembrolizumab immunotherapy but now i dont suffer.

    All the best Darren

  • Hello,

I’d like to suggest you contact one of the nurses on this site and ask them. I suspect everyone is different but have a look at the NHS website. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/lung-cancer/symptoms/

I think nothing will be firm until the diagnosis and discussion of treatment. For me, it took about 5 weeks before I had a firm diagnosis and treatment was discussed. There were then some more tests to make sure I was fit enough for an operation to remove the tumour. The worst period is the waiting for news. It does get easier once you know what is going on.

I’m sorry you are here and hope that you find out soon. My family gave me great support just by being there and I’ve found the nurses here and on the Roy Castle website very helpful when I’ve got in a panic or needed some advice. Hold on there

    Best wishes
