Hi Everyone,
I'm at my wits end at trying to keep on top of this pain.
Nothing I try seems to last longer than two hours, and even then I don't get a full 2 hours relief. From the time I take the tablets, there is a very gradual reduction of pain, which eventually gets down to about a level 3. I stay at a 3 for maybe half an hour, if I'm lucky, before the pain gradually starts to ramp up again.
I'm sure others who suffer with pain know what I mean, even though I'm not explaining it very well.
The pain is in my right shoulder and extends to the back of my neck and down both upper arms. I've been told the lung cancer is in my bones. and I'm having radiotherapy soon, but only on my shoulder.
The pain in my shoulder is a stabbing pain, , like theres a lot of broken glass in there, but the pain in my upper arms feels as if Mike Tyson is repeatedly punching them.
The pain meds I'm taking at the moment are
Zapain, Naproxine, Paracetamol, Ibuprofen . Liquid morphine has been added to the mix, which diddapointedly doesn't seem to be helping as much as Id hoped.
I'm going to speak to my allocated nurse tomorrow.
But in the meantime, does anybody have any suggestions of things I could ask to Try?
Also I suppose I'm hoping to connect with others with a lot of pain, so we can. maybe come up with ideas to help each other.
Thanks X
Hi harebell
do sorry you are having so much pain, sometimes the pain can be nerve related which needs a totally different type of medication to be effective. Glad you are seeing your nurse tomorrow she will be able to help you out. In the meantime, have you tried a hot water bottle under your arm (not too hot !) this can often give some relief.
good luck , sending virtual hugs x
Good morning lovely people.
2nd CT scan on 17 April this tear (R upper lobectomy Dec. 2022) recent scan has shown my middle lobe is compressed. Having bronchial lavage on the 23rd May. Letter to GP from consultant described it as possible middle lobe syndrome, GP unsure what this is. Regular chest infections but one in December this year & a few weeks ago really floored me. Throat is quite raw & my voice is quite hoarse. Anyone able to suggest any ideas on what's going on with me ?
Thanks Indian,
I am currently sat here hugging a hot water bottle!
A soak in a bath helps as well, but can only shower at the moment as I am marked up , ready for radiotherapy.
Interesting point about the pain possibly being nerve related. I wonder what medication would help if that were the case? X
Popular ones are pregabalin & gabapentin amongst others, I believe they are both very effective in dealing with nerve pain as they work very differently to analgesics which target the pain associated with joints, muscles etc x
