Hello reaching out to everybody
My dad has terminal lung cancer and starts Immunotherapy soon. What has been everybody’s experience with this?
im so glad these forms exist as I feel so overwhelmed with the thought of losing my dad and don’t know where to turn
Hi Upsanddowns. I haven't posted yet - I've just been reading so far, but also came here because my dad has lung cancer. He's stage 4 (with mets on adrenal gland) and classed as terminal too. I probably can't offer much in terms of experiences as we're just a tad further along than you and your dad - my dad just had his first immunotherapy treatment 2 days ago, but I couldn't not reply as we're in similar situations.
My dad's first treatment went well. I know it's early days, but so far so good. He's on Pembrolizumab.
He's been in relatively good health for the past couple of weeks. We had a really bad spell before that and he was hospitalised for two weeks due to a chest infection and blood clots in his lungs - he thought he was dying. But lots of loving care (nurses are amazing!), oxygen therapy and medication got him back on his feet and well enough to start treatment. He's on his own (my mum passed away 5 years ago) and he is back to being his independent self.
He's delighted to be receiving the treatment and it has given him a lot of hope. Before we found out he was eligible, he was really just waiting to die, but now he has a whole new lease of life! The period of time between initially discovery of the cancer and finding out the treatment options is a kind of living hell, but we're through it now and hoping for the best.
I hope things go well for your dad. When does his treatment start?
Hi im stage 4 terminal its in my lung adrenal glands and lymph nodes, i have been on pembrolizumab since December 2020 i finish this December but its shrinking my tumours down nicely so stay positive, I have my 15 month scan redults this Friday coming so i will update .
Best wishes
Darren
Thanks for your reply. It feels less isolating when someone else is going though similar. Sending love to you and your dad. I’m glad his treatment is going well. It gives some hope!! My dads treatment starts on the 30th… he’s not doing the best at the moment so hoping this gives a boost. X
Wow this is such hopeful news. I am glad the treatment is going well. Sending love. Would love to hear updates when u can! X
Hi ya had my 15 month scan results today i am in shock 18 months ago i was told i had stage 4 lung cancer and terminal, today they can only see a small amount in my lung the rest has gone so there is hope for me to get remission.
Hi, upanddowns. My husband has Stage 4 lung cancer and received treatment with immunotherapy for about 6 months. The side effects were really minimal, and the tumor shrank significantly. He recently had to stop because one of his mets (in the tonsil—quite rare) was not responding. We are starting the chemo journey now. Immunotherapy works great for a lot of people and seems to be well tolerated. Hoping for that for your dad.
Hi Fsake how many scans have you had since starting your treatment please. My brother in law was diagnosed Christmas last year, and his last scan nothing had changed.
