Hi

My mum has stage 4 lung cancer and since her chemo stopped she has had a persistent cough that is getting worse.

The doctor prescribed a linctus bottle to try and a nose spray but they don’t seem to have any effect.
We are due to see her consultant soon but wondered if anyone could give any recommendations for treating the cough in the mean time?

many thanks

  • Hi MissC sorry to hear your mum is struggling with a cough post chemo. It is really hard to find something to help which is not on prescription. I tried everything when my cough was bad. The amount of cough sweets I got through, I also drank a lot of hot honey and lemon. This did ease the my throat which was irritated by all the coughing.

There are inhalers that can be prescribed to help open the airwaves which may help her, so hopefully the oncologist can help with this.

  • Hello miss C

sorry about your poor mums cough, really irritating. Might be worth a call to your mums specialist nurse. She might be able to suggest something to ease it. Don’t know if it’s a chest cough (unable to cough anything up) if so an expectorant might help. Good luck

    Good morning lovely people.

2nd CT scan on 17 April this tear (R upper lobectomy Dec. 2022) recent scan has shown my middle lobe is compressed. Having bronchial lavage on the 23rd May. Letter to GP from consultant described it as possible middle lobe syndrome,  GP unsure what this is. Regular chest infections but one in December this year & a few weeks ago really floored me. Throat is quite raw & my voice is quite hoarse. Anyone able to suggest any ideas on what's going on with me ?

  • Thank you. We have an appointment with mums oncologist this afternoon so hopefully they can offer something to help. I will definitely ask about an inhaler. Thank you x
