Time from diagnosis to treatment

Hi,

I was diagnosed with NSCLC in November this year but, due to ongoing concerns I may also have bowel cancer, I still have no treatment plan.

I am worried about how quickly this type of cancer spreads, and would be very grateful if anyone has any experience in this area.

Many thanks

  • Hi stalyvegas I am sorry to hear about your diagnoses, and can fully understand how worried you are about the wait for treatment. There is a pathway that the hospital has to follow regarding tests and treatment, in a way there are certain box’s that have to be ticked before treatment can start. I guess if there is concern regarding a possible bowel cancer as well, then further tests would need to be carried out.
The NICE guidelines regarding treatment and diagnoses are:

    • no more than 2 months (62 days) wait between the date the hospital receives an urgent referral for suspected cancer and the start of treatment
    • no more than 31 days wait between the meeting at which you and your doctor agree the treatment plan and the start of treatment

I Hope you don’t have to wait much longer for some news. Let us know how you get on x
