Sorry to hear about your Dad.     Two members of my family had mesothelioma, one was mt Dad who'd worked with asbestos from the 50s until he retired  and the  othe was his sister who had lived in the same house.    He did have surgery for the secondary in his brain but unfortunately it was too late by this stage. He wore no protective equipment at that time.   Take care
