Inoperable to operable

Has anyone here ever reached out to get a second surgical opinion and has been successful? My mum has bowel cancer with spread to the liver. She’s been generally stable since starting chemo. However she has now been on chemo since July 2024 and it is starting to take its toll on her. It’s so hard to watch. She has been told she’s inoperable because although her mets are small, she has atleast 1 in every section of her liver which is unfortunate. I want to know if there is anyway around this? Why can’t they ablate the small ones (pinhole sized) and surgically remove the biggest one? I don’t get this. I need to find a way to get her off chemo and find a better way for her to survive this! She is only 56 and I don’t want to lose her. Or lose her mentally either. Please help!! Any stories or recommendations of places that could potentially help here would be much appreciated. Thanks, Sarah.

  • just wanted to ask if you have tried Leeds Hospital ? They have exceptional surgeons who specialise in Liver cancer . Two years ago I had a liver resection to remove mets in several places on the liver from bowel cancer. Would it be possible for a referral to Leeds?
