My mother was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis back in 2017 after moving to England in 2018 her treatment was started ....everything was going smooth hepatology team told me that she has gyms growing on her liver they did two tace procedures to remove that but it grew back... July 2021 ct scan showed cancer is in liver but after 3 months in September when they did ct scan they found out cancer has spread to her lungs and bones.....doctor now telling me there is nothing they can do and they can not even go for chemo or immunotherapy as her liver is too damaged to handle that...I trying to understand within three months how come they didn't notice any growth of cancer and how come it's spread so quickly....just three months...
They told me to take care of her and make her feel comfortable as she doesn't t have much time...
Please anyone who is going through same thing and have tried any treatment or therapy let me know as am looking for options....
Thank you
Hi and welcome to the Online Community. I'm so sorry to read about your Mum's prognosis. Unfortunately cancer is a hateful disease and often the speed of the spread cannot be accurately predicted.
I'm going to recommend you join our Supporting someone with incurable cancer a group where you'll be able to connect with others going through the same situation. I hope the members will be along soon to offer advice as to treatments or therapies.
You could also call the Macmillan Support helpline for advice, freephone number shown below.

Hi
Really sorry to hear about your mum ! I think the function of the liver as an organ can play a part in the spread and also the way the lymphatic pathways run ! My mum had a spread from the bowel to the liver then her lung !
The dr explained that the further spread is all part of the original spread that is thrown out through the blood and finds somewhere to lodge ! It may remain small for a long time then suddenly gain ground and start multiplying! My own mum had a recurrence within three months and had four new tumours !
The other factor that impacts liver function is the liver enzymes, when they go too high they can’t administer chemotherapy and I am wondering if this is part of the issue !
It is heart breaking for sure and we are here to support you ! What might be beneficial is getting a second opinion from another oncologist to see if they can suggest anything ! It can be really helpful !
Thinking of you and your mum !
