Hi, a newbie here, my husband who is 62 has a mri on his heart 29th December 2025 , the consultant rang in the afternoon to say they had accidentally picked up something on liver and it needed investigating. He was on amiodarone medication and a couple of days later an on call registrar called late (11.30 pm) one evening from a&e to say his bloods were deranged and to stop take amiodarone straight away as it was making his liver poorly. Next day he was really yellow with jaundice and looked shocking. His heart consultant seen him in clinic 2 days later and decided to admit him to hospital. He admitted him to a heart ward as he could get a bed quicker there. He had ct scan which was inconclusive. He then had a mri scan which confirmed a malignant tumour?? Possibly Hcc? But suggested he needed a biopsy. This mass measured 13cm. He spent 7 days in hospital, not one hepatic doctor came to see him. His billirubin levels have come right down from 119 to 39 (last bloods were nearly 3 weeks ago ). He has no other symptoms, still eating, no pain and back to normal colour, urine back to normal colour etc. It hasn't spread to anywhere else either and also that no cirhossis is present. He attended a liver clinic almost 4 weeks ago now and before any latest bloods were discussed they told us no treatment would be given as tumour is too big, and billirubin too high, it was only because I asked constantly for 2 weeks for repeat bloods that we knew his bilirubin had come down dramatically and his atp was normal also. They said TACE treatment won't work because tumour too big. They also said no biopsy was taking place because of jaundice but they back tracked on this the following day and he had to wait 2 weeks for a biopsy. It's taken 2 weeks of phone calls to get results which finally they came back from the lab, 1 week ago. They wouldn't discuss the results over the phone and have told us to attend clinic tomorrow (monday). My question is , surely some kind of treatment can be given, no cirhossis, no jaundice, otherwise very mobile and healthy?? I truly believe he has been neglected so far , tumour discovered 29th Dec 2025, it's now 1st March and we still don't know anymore, hopefully tomorrow will bring more info and he won't be sent home to die. So stressed and upset. We are living in a nightmare
Hi Rosielee and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
I know how horrible waiting for biopsies, results and a treatment plan can be and I'm hoping that your appointment with the consultant yesterday brought some clarity.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
