Hello, I'm new here. My 'new' oncologist (I used to only see the urologist) is giving me NO treatment (he did try one drug but it seemed (I'm not convinced) to give me side effects, so he stopped it) and I'm getting NO support from the Macmillan nurse practitioner- tried to contact her several times but she's never available and nevr contacts me back either. I've just be dumped it looks like.

Quite an irony that this community keeps saying how much they're 'here for me', yet my own named Macmillan nurse at the hospital ignores me totally! Ha! Ha! RIP John, hey!

Nice to meet you

John

  • Hello and welcome to the Online Community. I can tell from your post that you are seriously hacked off by the lack of responses from both your Oncologist and your Macmillan Nurse and I'm very sorry you've not received any answers in this, a very stressful time for you. This Community IS here for you and although I have a different type of cancer to you we'll attempt to get you some answers.

I see you've joined our very supportive Kidney cancer forum where you'll be able to talk with other people who are on the same type of journey. In my experience the Macmillan nurses at my NHS trust have been brilliant, they're all incredibly busy but always revert back so I would persist in your attempts to contact her. It might be a good idea to contact your GP and explain the problems you're encountering as you shouldn't be left high and dry.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provid.es lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the best, B x

  • Hi John. I just popped by to see if you'd had any answer yet and see no-one's replied

TBH I don't think you'll get a lot of sympathy from anyone here by having a pop at Macmillan. To most of us on the online community Macmillan are our light at the end of the tunnel and a calm port in a storm as we've all had, have or support someone with cancer.

I'd suggest you repost on the lines of " Can anyone suggest why no more treatment?" - and not in a large font - seems a bit aggressive to me (IMHO)

Also it'd be good to update your profile to let us know about your journey so far. By doing that you won't repeat yourself.

    All the best, Bx

  • Hi John

My husband has advanced kidney cancer . His tumour is inoperable and has spread to lungs , lymph nodes and adrenal gland . What treatment did you have , many people react badly to immunotherapy but there are other treatments  , did you have your kidney removed ? You can ask for a second opinion with a different oncologist.

My husbands clinical specialist nurse is not funded by Macmillan but she is amazing . When we did go to Macmillan for help with something like you it was a waste of time , it obviously depends on which part of the UK you live . Good luck
