Hi everyone
Had my operation on the 14th March 2022, I had a partial nephrectomy, I still have pain, and my head is all over the place. Feel like I am not coping with it all.
Has anyone else just felt lost after, their diagnosis and operation.
Even though they said they got it all, I still feel anxious of it returning, and I still have pain, even after 11months.
Can RCC come back ?
I am on yearly follow up, just wondered if anyone else has had this, and is struggling like myself. Is it normal to still feel this way?
Many thanks.
Hi there BuddyD I have read others mentioning this across all the groups. The rush to treatment can become a focus and after it's gone people find they have to retrospectively "catch-up" with what happened. And of course, the fact that you've experienced cancer just doesn't disappear overnight. This great paper After Treatment Finishes - Then What? by Dr Peter Harvey is frequently shared on these forums as it accurately highlights the post treatment milestones to be navigated.
Early detection and nephrectomy is still the best long term option. There are some adjuvant treatments on trial in some areas. You're ahead of me - I've still this milestone to come. I don't think you can ever return to normal, mentally, after cancer. I hope others with nephrectomies (I didn't have one) can add their thoughts soon.
Hi Buddy M you are certainly not alone In your feelings……and in particular the what ifs and uncertainty.
I have just read the article that Mumm has shared and thought it summed up everything so well. Thank you for sharing this.
The journey can be tough and it’s really positive that you are able to say how you feel and ask for support. We are right behind you all of the way.
Have you thought of speaking to macmillan, they may be able to organise some counselling to help you .
Sending you a big hug xxx
Hi Mmum thanks for letting us all know about the paper honestly I wish I was given this at the start of my treatment it would have helped so much.
Even after all this time we all are learning how to cope and process information and advice.
To be quite honest I did think I was almost there but it never goes away ( my singing hasn't improved) my Spotify playlist is getting quite strange.( My coping mechanism)
Stay positive because believe me it helps BuddyD, I strongly recommend speaking to Macmillan they are brilliant and also your medical team ( I have a clinical trials team that are fantastic after my immutheraphy)
Stay safe
Mike
Thanks Vanmanmikey. I have to say feel that since my operation and being told they got it and in yearly follow up, nobody has been bothered to be honest, seems as though they've done their part so that's it. I keep reading the paper Mmum told me about and it is so true word for word.
Stay strong.
